George Benson: Family helped me learn music
Ibanez guitar player George Benson has credited his mother and stepfather with helping him to learn music.
According to the legendary jazz musician, he was seven years old when his stepfather brought a guitar home with him and showed him how to play a few chords.
Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Benson said his mother also enjoyed music and was a particularly good singer.
"She sang to me all the time," he commented.
"By the time I was four, I knew a lot of songs."
Benson, who is best known for hits such as Give Me The Night and This Masquerade, added that his stepfather's interest in Charlie Christian led to him becoming a fan as well.
"He could do just about everything," Benson said.Posted on 22 Oct 2009 17:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
