Gary Barlow: Piano wouldn't work after split
The singer-songwriter, who is currently using his musical expertise on the X Factor, told the Guardian he went into depression after Take That dramatically split up 15 years ago, an event that sent shockwaves across the UK.
His "beautiful white piano", his "lucky" musical instrument, lost its power.
He told the newspaper: "Every hit I'd had I'd written on this piano. Within six months of this not happening any more, this piano drove me mad.
"To the point where I spent days just looking at it, lying underneath it, lying on top of it, rubbing my face on it, going slowly insane, trying to work out why this thing wasn't delivering to me like it used to."
It was only when the band reformed in 2006 after a candid documentary brought all the bandmates together again – except Robbie Williams – he felt "valid" again.
Since then he has enjoyed massive success with Take That, who have not only sold millions of records but produced sell-out tours that have wowed audiences around the world.
