Fresh leader for BBC SSO
A violin player has become the orchestra's newest leader for the forthcoming season spanning this and next year.
She has past form in leading the orchestra, having done do several times before, so Laura Samuel should know what to expect when she comes to the post.
Her musical past includes a stint at the Royal College of Music as well as work with the Belcea Quartet, of which she was one of the founding members.
The violin player has commented that she is "thrilled" with her new appointment.
"I'm thrilled and honoured to accept the position of Leader of the BBCSSO, an ensemble of talented musicians which deserves its reputation as one of the finest," she said, adding that she was looking forward to the forthcoming season.
According to the BBC, another orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, will be performing in Stirling, Scotland, later in June at an event set to kick off the London 2012 Festival.
