Fort Worth Symphony get second Stradivarious
Gifted to them by an anonymous donor, the classic violin will come under the responsibility of concertmaster Swang Lin, who is looking forward to playing on it.
He was told the news while he was driving in his car and such was his excitement he had to pull over to take it all in, reported dfw.com.
"It's a really powerful instrument," Mr Lin said.
"Just like you have to learn to drive a car, I have to learn to play this instrument. I have to learn how to make it my partner. We have to get to know each other better."
This particular Stradivarius was built in 1685 and has since gone on to be known as the "Mackenzie".
It was recently on loan to Emanuel Borok of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Fort Worth Symphony already has possession of a Stradivarius known as the "Davis", which was produced in 1710.
The Stradivarius instrument is revered in the classical music world. There are believed to be only 650 known instruments left, which were produced by the legendary 17th and 18th century Italian craftsman Antonio Stradivari.Posted on 17 Nov 2011 10:08 to category : Instruments News
