Foals and Arcade Fire lead NME Awards nominations
Math-rock band Foals have been nominated for five NME Awards, leading the field ahead of the likes of Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys.
The group are up for prizes such as Best British Band and Best Album, as well as competing in the Best Track category with their song Spanish Sahara.
As has already been announced, electric guitar player and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will be collecting the Godlike Genius prize at the show, which is taking place on February 23rd at the O2 Academy in Brixton.
Arcade Fire will also be hopeful of a successful night at the ceremony, with the group competing in four categories - Best International Band, Best Live Band, Best Album and Best Video for We Used to Wait.
Former NME darlings Kings of Leon appear to have lost the support of the magazine and its readers, as their only nominations are for Worst Band and Worst Album.
Two days after the event, Foo Fighters have been booked to headline the NME Big Gig at Wembley Arena.
Support for the electric guitar band will come from Cee Lo Green, Band of Horses and No Age.
