Florence Welch's "fluke" music career started out in a toilet.

The Florence and the Machine frontwoman - whose debut album 'Lungs' was one of the best-selling records of 2009 - admitted she first met her manager Mairead Nash when she sang an Etta James track to the Queens of Noize DJ in the toilet at a party.

She said: "I was at this tuxedo event. I cornered Mairead in the toilet and started singing 'Something's Got a Hold on Me' by Etta James to her. She asked me to sing at her Christmas party, and now she's my manager. It's such a funny fluke that I started, quite literally, in the toilet."

Meanwhile, the singer - whose 'Dog Days Are Over' track is nominated for the coveted Best Video gong at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards - explained the song is about "apocalyptic euphoria".

She added to the USA Today newspaper: "'Dog Days' symbolises apocalyptic euphoria, chaotic freedom and running really, really fast with your eyes closed. I hope to somehow encapsulate those things in my performance.

"Music is an outlet for my frustration when I go to my darkest place. I'm scared and joyful at the same time. But all my music is heartfelt and sincere."
