Festival boss was willing to pay '£4 million' for Eminem
Ken West, promoter of the Big Day Festival in Australia and New Zealand, admitted that he and his team were willing to splash out on serious money to get one of the biggest names in hip hop to headline.
Speaking to the New Zealand Herald, Mr West said that it was "la la land" to think Eminem would ever perform at the festival, even with such a lucrative offer.
He went on to reveal how he also failed to secure 80s legend Prince and Blink 182 for next year's festival, which runs over January and February.
However, he was sanguine about those outcomes – he has been keeping a close eye on finances in the run up to the festival.
"It's a really expensive show. A lot of costs in Australia are across five shows," he told the newspaper.
"New Zealand is a standalone show, all the production comes here for one event. It's just a really expensive thing to put together."
