Fender unveils Wayne Kramer signature Stratocaster
The electric guitar has been designed to mirror the red, white and blue instrument used by the MC5 star back in the 1960s.
Kramer explained the look of the original guitar was inspired by the electric guitar used by Pete Townshend in The Who, which featured the Union Jack on it.
The star stated that he decided to come up with an alternative version that showcased his American roots.
"I figured my motif could be the American flag, the stars and stripes, and so I decided to paint my guitar in that colour scheme to advertise my patriotism and total opposition to the direction the country was going in 1968," he said.
Kramer is one of the leading figures in the Jail Guitar Doors scheme, a charity set up by Billy Bragg to allow prisoners to have access to musical instruments.
In 2009, the MC5 star participated in a visit to the UK as part of the project, which saw him take part in a special performance with Bragg and The Clash's Mick Jones.
He also paid a visit to HMP Pentonville to lend his support to the scheme.
