Fender hybrid 'highlights' Super Bowl
Posted on 3rd Feb 2009 11:30 to category Band / Celebrity News
The standout moment for Bruce Springsteen followers at this year's Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida involved the return of the musician's famous Fender guitar, it has been claimed.
According to Howie Edelson of KBS Radio, the hybrid instrument - which features the body of a Telecaster and an Esquire neck - was a welcome half-time entertainment sight for viewers, who have not seen it used since it went into retirement in 2000.
"The highpoint for diehard fans was seeing Springsteen play his retired Fender hybrid Telecaster-Esquire guitar, which has been completely absent from his live shows over the past few years," Mr Edelson wrote.
Springsteen used the electric guitar from 1972 onwards and is seen holding it on the front cover of one of his most famous albums, 1975's Born to Run.
Bob Wire wrote in his New West blog this week that Springsteen did well at the Super Bowl, but suggested that he would choose an even flashier musical instrument to play, such as Rich Nielsen of Cheap Trick's famous five-neck guitar.
