Female talent 'to lead the way in 2010'
Posted on 30th Dec 2009 11:33 to category Music News
Women who play instruments such as guitars and keyboards could be set to enjoy a highly successful 2010.
According to music retailer HMV, a considerable number of female artists are expected to rise to prominence over the next year.
Melanie Armstrong, music manager at the company, said the success of emerging acts such as Ellie Goulding shows that female talent is "leading the way".
"2010 looks like being another vintage year for new and breakthrough artists," she commented.
Ms Armstrong added that both the media and music fans are becoming increasingly interested in who will be the next big thing.
The last few years have seen a number of female artists make a name for themselves in the music industry, such as Lily Allen, Pixie Lott and Duffy.
Indeed, Duffy's signature hit Mercy was recently named by PRS for Music as the most played song in the UK during 2009.
This put her ahead of acts such as Girls Aloud, Take That and Jennifer Hudson.
