Innovative and futuristic electronic music instruments will be showcased for the first time at an event in San Francisco next month.

RobotSpeak, a music production school based in the city, is organising the event entitled Multi-touch Interfaces: Beyond the Table.

Some of the weird and wonderful instruments on show include Soundplane A, which is described as a computer music controller that has the "feel of an acoustic instrument".

Steve Taomina of RobotSpeak, said: "RobotSpeak offers the sensible alternative to expensive certificate schools. Our classes are designed to empower the home and project studio musician with real world skills so they can start making better music now with the gear they actually own."

At the seminar there will also be a discussion on how aspiring electronic musicians can engage with multi-touch technology, emphasising the fact it is possible to make such devices themselves.

In August, the AlphaSphere music instrument was unveiled.

A spherical device that looks a bit like a football, the AlphaSphere emits sounds based on how much pressure is applied on its touch-sensitive pads.
