Eric Clapton named as greatest musical influence
Electric guitar player Eric Clapton has been named as the greatest musical influence on other musicians.
In a poll conducted by Allianz Musical Insurance at the Guitar Nation Live conference, Clapton was picked out ahead of fellow rock luminaries such as Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.
There were also places in the top five for legendary electric guitar players Chuck Berry and Jeff Beck.
Those who voted for Clapton will have the opportunity to see him play live next year, as the star is going on a tour of the UK and Ireland during May.
He is to play shows in Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow and Cardiff, before participating in a six-night residency at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The Allianz survey also discovered many musicians enjoy pulling out their guitars in unexpected places, with 38 per cent stating they have played the instrument on a beach.
Others claimed to have used their guitars on planes and the underground.
