Eric Clapton hailed for electric guitar solo on Beatles song
Posted on 1 Oct 2009 13:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Electric guitar legend Eric Clapton has been praised for his performance on While My Guitar Gently Weeps by The Beatles.
According to Alex Shoaf of American Songwriter, the George Harrison composition very nearly did not make it onto the band's self-titled album.
Indeed, Mr Shoaf said the song was met with "widespread indifference" from the rest of the Fab Four, who recorded several takes just to keep the songwriter happy.
However, Harrison brought in his friend and electric guitar player Eric Clapton to help out and add his magic to the track.
Mr Shoaf said Clapton's status as a "guitar god" encouraged The Beatles to up their game in the studio.
He commended the Cream star for producing a "piercing" electric guitar solo that perfectly complemented the "mournful" sound created by the rest of the band.
This, he added, helped to make While My Guitar Gently Weeps one of the most essential tracks on the group's 1968 double album.
Clapton later performed the song with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr at a memorial concert for Harrison at the Royal Albert Hall in 2002.
