Epiphone guitar 'gives The xx a heavy dose a soul'
Posted on 17th Mar 2010 07:46 to category Music News
The use of an Epiphone guitar is an important aspect of the songs made by hotly-tipped British band The xx, it has been suggested.
Writing for the website of guitar manufacturer Gibson, music critic Aidan Vaziri named the group as one of his must-see acts of the forthcoming South by Southwest music festival in Texas.
Describing The xx as a cross between The Cure and Massive Attack, he stated there is a growing buzz about the group.
"Singer Romy Madley Croft plays a Goldtop Epiphone, giving their ghostly, minimalist electronic compositions like Islands and Night Time a heavy dose of soul," it was added.
Vaziri went on to recommend a range of acts worth catching at the industry event - including indie band Spoon, rock star Andrew W.K. and retro soul outfit Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.
Earlier this month, The xx were announced as one of the acts for this year's Latitude Festival, which will also feature Vampire Weekend and Florence and the Machine.
