Elvis Costello rubbishes his own overpriced music
In a move that will have his bosses at Universal Music Group in uproar, the legendary singer-songwriter wrote on his own website that the £212.99 price tag attached to The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook was ridiculous.
On his own, personal website, the star and his team joked under the heading "Let's make things sparkling clear", that the price must either be a "misprint or satire".
"All our attempts to have this number revised have been fruitless so we are taking the unusual step," the blog read.
"If you want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving, we suggest Ambassador Of Jazz – a cute little imitation suitcase containing ten remastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived – Louis Armstrong."
Showing a strong sense of modesty that is amiss in today's music industry, Costello said that the music was "vastly superior".
However, it could be a clever marketing ploy.
