The work of legendary electric guitar player Jimi Hendrix is to be introduced to a whole new generation.

Hendrix, who is one of the most famous men to wield a Gibson Flying V on stage, redefined the way in which the electric guitar was played and inspired rock bands across the globe.

Although his career was cut short by his untimely death at the age of 27 in 1970, he had time to record three classic studio albums with his band the The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland.

All three are to be reissued in a deluxe format as part of a deal between Experience Hendrix and Sony Music Entertainment, which will also see the live album Band of Gypsys rereleased.

Janie Hendrix, Jimi's brother and president of Experience Hendrix, said she was delighted with the deal as it would help to take the late guitarist's work to a new generation of music lovers.

She added: "Jimi's legacy and vision were unique and there will never be another that reaches his unparalleled genius. He was the greatest guitarist ever."
