Eldest child 'most likely to become a rock star'
Wannabe guitar heroes are more likely to make it as a rock star if they are a first-born child, according to a new survey.
Research carried out by statistician Dr Geoff Ellis for UKTV Gold found that three-quarters of famous rockers are either the eldest or an only child.
Paul McCartney of The Beatles and Wings, for instance, is the eldest child in his family, as is Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger.
Dr Ellis said this could be because the eldest child typically craves attention, has lots of ambition and is more energetic than their siblings.
"When rock stars are considered in isolation against the rest of the sample group, the probability of the results being purely random are reduced to less than one in a thousand," he commented.
Other big names that conform with this trend are Beatles rhythm guitar player John Lennon and only children Eric Clapton and Elton John.Posted on 2 Jun 2010 14:41 to category : Instruments News
