Effects pedals 'can add texture to guitar sound'

Electric guitar players have been encouraged to enhance their sound with effects pedals.
According to Gibson, musicians can get an excellent tone by using the simple set up of their instrument and guitar amp.

However, the company stated that many players often need to add an extra element to their sound and performance.
"Effects pedals can add texture, dynamics, space and motion to an otherwise two dimensional sound," it commented.
Gibson added that guitarists could benefit from trying out as many effects units as possible, as there is an enormous range of sounds available.
This, it said, would help them determine what best suits them, their band and their playing style.
Carlos Santana was highlighted as one famous exponent of guitar effects, along with Steve Vai and Brian May.
In fact, the Queen guitarist famously created one of his electric guitar classics - Brighton Rock - by harmonising with the sound created by an echo delay.
