Drumming 'can help to reduce stress'
People who suffer from stress have been advised that playing the drums can be an effective way for them to relieve some of their tension.
Taking part in drumming sessions has been advocated by Jayne Robinson, clinical specialist occupational therapist at 2gether NHS Foundation Trust.
She told This is Gloucestershire that the pastime is great because it helps people to be creative and express themselves, as well as have fun.
"[Drums] can also be extremely calming and can help to reduce stress, depression and anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote overall emotional as well as physical wellbeing," Ms Robinson added.
Being spontaneous with the beat that is produced by the drum kit is also advocated as it is an active process that allows people to focus on a rhythm expressing their feelings.
For those who want to get the best out of the activity, they could try starting a drumming circle with their friends, as this inclusive approach will have greater mental benfits.
Fans of drumming can see Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters on stage with the rest of the chart-topping American band this summer at the iTunes Festival in London.
