Drummers told: Believe in yourself and anything is possible
Posted on 23 Jan 2010 10:00 to category : Tips and advice

The man behind the drum kit in recently reformed indie band Reef has told young musicians that anything can be achieved if they have enough faith in themselves.
Speaking to the North Devon Journal, Dominic Greensmith explained that his career had not only managed to encompass a successful stint with Reef in the 1990s but has also recently included getting behind the drum kit for Peter Gabriel's latest album.
He said it was definitely possible for young musicians to follow his example and have a career in the industry.
"Believe in yourself and believe it is possible, because it is," he said.
He added there was a tendency in new bands to try and be too much like the more-established groups they look up to.
"It's part of being younger to follow other bands and you try and be like them because it's part of the learning," Greensmith explained.
"Eventually it's good to break away from that."
Earlier this week, Dinosaur Jr drummer Emmett Murphy had similar advice for beginners who have just started to get behind a drum kit.
He told the Queen's University Journal that it is more important to play music they enjoy than worry about what genre is best.
