Disney to remake Beatles movie
Posted on 21st Aug 2009 14:00 to category Band / Celebrity News
Movie giant Disney is to make a new version of The Beatles' animated adventure film Yellow Submarine.
However, Variety reports the project could depend on whether Disney is able to secure the rights to the songs that appeared in the original film.
Yellow Submarine was originally written as a children's song for Ringo Starr on the Revolver album in 1966 and loosely inspired the movie of the same name that came out two years later.
The Beatles themselves only make a fleeting appearance at the end of the film, as their cartoon counterparts were voiced by actors including former Coronation Street star Geoffrey Hughes.
However, the band did contribute a number of new songs to the project, including the John Lennon piano-based rocker Hey Bulldog and Paul McCartney's acoustic guitar-led nursery rhyme All Together Now.
These were featured alongside songs from previous albums including Nowhere Man, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and With A Little Help From My Friends.
Actors would again assume the roles of John, Paul, George and Ringo in the new film as they explore the unearthly paradise of Pepperland and do battle with the Blue Meanies.
