Devendra Banhart returns with new album and UK tour
The singer/songwriter is due to release Mala on March 11th, but prior to the official launch he is streaming it on on NPR. To coincide with the unveiling of his eighth studio album, Banhart has announced a handful of intimate UK shows.
He will kick off the tour at Brighton's Old Market on June 28th, before moving on to The Ritz in Manchester (July 17th) and London's Barbican on July 18th. Tickets for the upcoming shows go on sale on March 5th.
Mala represents the follow-up to 2009's What Will We Be, which gained strong praise from music critics around the globe with Rolling Stone, giving the record 3.5 out of five in its reviews section.
It also reached the heights of number eight in the US Folk Albums chart. Banhart revealed that Mala was created using borrowed equipment and recorded on a recorder bought in a pawn shop.
He added: "Knowing my songs are not hip-hop whatsoever, we thought it would be interesting to see how these kinds of songs would sound on equipment that was used to record our favourite rap."
