Death Cab for Cutie 'bringing out keyboard-based record'

Death Cab for Cutie are taking a new approach for their next album.
Great deals on musical instruments

Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard has revealed that the band have put down their electric guitars for their next record to come up with a different sound.

"We've been into vintage keyboards and playing with that palette," he told Spin, stating that Brian Eno's Another Green World had been a key inspiration for the group.

Gibbard said that he is particularly proud of new track Unobstructed Views, which is a chiefly instrumental piece that lasts for around eight minutes.

"It has the piano and keyboard soundscapes that I've been really enjoying," he explained.

The record is pencilled in for a spring 2011 release date and Gibbard said he wants to get going on another album at some point next year.

When he does play the guitar, Gibbard employs one of his Gibson J-45s or a G&L Bluesboy, while he also uses a range of Boss and Line 6 guitar pedals.
