David Gest and Lamont Dozier bring Motown to UK
Posted on 25 Jun 2010 10:00 to category : Music News

Lamont Dozier is to make his first UK appearance in 10 years.
The legendary Motown singer/songwriter - who penned classics such as `Baby Love', `How Sweet It Is' and `Stop! In The Name Of Love' alongside Brian and Edward Holland - will mark his return to Britain by appearing alongside television star David Gest at `An Evening Of Motown and Soul' at London's Gilgamesh restaurant on July 23.
The 59-year-old star is likely to perform hit tracks, such as `Why Can't We Be Lovers' and `Trying To Hold On To My Woman', and will be joined on stage by `What Becomes of the Broken Hearted' hitmaker Jimmy Ruffin and American singer Freda Payne, the voice behind hit single `Band of Gold'.
Gest - a close friend of Michael Jackson, who died one year ago today (25.06.10) - will host the event, which will also include an auction to raise funds for The Lord's Taverners charity, which helps disadvantaged young people to enjoy sporting activities.
Also making a special guest appearance will be Gest's cousins The Hump Family Singers, who will sing alongside the concert promoter for the first time in two years.
He said: "It will be great to reunite with my cousins, The Hump Family Singers and I'm so pleased they will finally get to sample the sweet smell of success they so richly deserve."
