Dave Grohl to be handed Godlike Genius award
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is set to be awarded the accolade of Godlike Genius at next month's Shockwaves NME Awards.
The star, who first shot to fame as the man behind the drum kit in Nirvana, will be presented with the prize on February 23rd when a ceremony takes place in the O2 Academy Brixton in London.
Foo Fighters will also play live as part of the show.
Grohl said that while he was flattered to receive the award, he did not consider himself to be worthy of the title "Godlike Genius".
The electric guitar player added that he is fortunate to make a living doing something he is passionate about.
"It's a nice thing to be acknowledged for doing something you love to do, but in truth I don't consider it a body of work because I don't consider it work," he stated.
Previous winners of the accolade include Paul Weller, The Clash and Manic Street Preachers.
Foo Fighters will be back on the British Isles this summer, with the band lined up for headline appearances at the Isle of Wight Festival and two giant gigs at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
