Dave Grohl: Godlike Genius award win dedicated to drummers
Dave Grohl has dedicated his Godlike Genius prize at the NME Awards to anyone who plays a drum kit.
The star, who made his name playing the drums for Nirvana before becoming the frontman in the Foo Fighters, was given a standing ovation by the audience at the ceremony, which took place at the O2 Academy in Brixton last night (February 23rd).
"You guys realise they gave this one to a drummer, right? This one's for the drummers!" he said.
Grohl added that the Brixton Academy had special memories for him, as he had seen the Pixies play there with the rest of his Nirvana bandmates.
The drummer and guitarist went on to dedicate his honour to his former band's lead singer Kurt Cobain.
Grohl also performed with the rest of the Foo Fighters at the awards ceremony, with the group being joined by Roger Daltrey from The Who for a version of Young Man Blues.
On Friday, Foo Fighters will take to the stage at the Wembley Arena for the NME Big Gig, which is also set to feature performances from Cee Lo Green, No Age and Band of Horses.
