Danish Band Perform Completely Underwater

Have you ever wondered what a band would sound like submerged in water? Well wonder no more - as a Danish group of musicians embark on a new project entitled AquaSonic.

Whilst other artists have recorded in a nuclear submarine, this particular group has taken the idea one step further by playing completely immersed in the water!

The project is deemed to be "the most ambitious project to date from Danish musicians Laila Skovmand and Robert Karlsson, in collaboration with members of their ensemble Between Music.

The work presents five performers who submerge themselves in glass water tanks to play custom-made instruments and sing entirely underwater. Transformed inside these darkly glittering, aquatic chambers, they produce compositions that are both eerily melodic and powerfully resonant. AquaSonic is the culmination of years of research into the exciting possibilities of submerged musical performance, breaking barriers and challenging existing paradigms."

Numerous experiments had taken place alongside diving experts and scientists alike to develop specially-made instruments to make the aquatic performance possible.

Their first performance will take place at the Festival of New Music, Rotterdam on the 27th May 2016.
