Damien Rice splashes out on Bono guitar
The singer, who has recently seen a surge of interest in his music following on from the use of his song Cannonball by X Factor winners Little Mix, bagged the musical instrument at a charity auction in Los Angeles.
It is believed that Rice, 38, spent more than $500,000 (approximately £326,878) for the electric guitar at the Cinema For Peace event at the Montage Hotel.
The star also turned in a performance, where his purchase – the highest of the evening – was the topic of conversation.
He should have no problem paying for the guitar as he is enjoying the royalties from lending his tune to Little Mix.
The auction, which was held in order to raise money to benefit Haitians who are rebuilding their lives after an earthquake, was attended by megastar celebrities who were looking to do their bit for charity.
These included Salma Hayek, Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts, Demi Moore and Sean Penn.
Rice, who was sporting a huge beard and long hair, is no stranger to charitable endeavours – he has previously contributed to the Freedom Campaign and Songs For Tibet.
The Little Mix version of Cannonball went straight into number one last year, whereas the original track peaked at number 32 when it was first released back in 2003.
