Cream 'helped to revolutionise the electric guitar'
The way in which electric guitars are played was revolutionised by the work of Eric Clapton during his time in supergroup Cream.
This is the opinion of Gibson Lifestyle blog contributor Michael Wright, who explained Clapton had already built a considerable reputation for his abilities on the guitar with The Yardbirds and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers prior to joining Cream.
His work then really came into its own with the band, as his incredible improvisational abilities helped to change the way in which electric blues and rock guitar could be played. Mr Wright pointed out this helped to cement Clapton's nickname of God among many music lovers, with scores of his fans going on to play the guitar themselves after being inspired by their hero.
Clapton is due to head out on tour in early 2011, playing venues in Canada and the US during February and March before going around the UK in May. He is lined up to play shows in Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow and Cardiff, along with several dates at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
