Courageous piano player battles cancer to play for charity
A strong-willed piano player from Swindon, who was given just six months to live in the summer of 2009, is looking to raise money for the hospice that is currently caring for him by performing at a fundraising cabaret event later this month.
Ian James, 56, from Haydon Wick, has also recorded a CD of his music entitled Piano Man, which he will be selling to raise money for Prospect Hospice.
The courageous piano player, who also worked in the garden services for Swindon Council, has surprised doctors with his strength of character after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.
Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser, Mr James praised Prospect Hospice for its high level of care.
He said: "I can't fault them, right down to the flowers they bring you every day, it is like being at home and I love that feeling.
"It is like a new lease of life - when you are feeling a little down, which I don't like to be, they brighten everything up again."
He hopes to raise about £2,000.
The Ian James Cabaret Evening will be held at Blunsdon House Hotel on August 21st.
Some 7,800 people in the UK are diagnosed with oesophageal cancer every year.
