Coldplay isolate themselves in studio
Coldplay forget there are "other people in the world" when they are in the studio.
The 'Viva La Vida' rockers have spent much of the last year working on their fifth album, and said they have to make sure they don't get too absorbed in themselves and their recording process.
Singer Chris Martin told radio station BBC 6 Music: "Sometimes you can get very institutionalised in the studio.
"You can forget you're going to have to play this for other people. That's when music can get a bit silly."
Guitarist Jonny Buckland added: "You can forget that there are actually other people in the world."
The album is being made by the band - which also features bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion - alongside two producers, Brian Eno and Markus Dravs, and Chris and Jonny explained how they fulfil very different roles in working with the band.
Chris said: "Brian is very much the sower of seeds and ideas and experimenting and liberating. Markus' job is to come in after all that has been done and sculpt it into some kind of releasable format. They're very much like a tag team and we're very lucky to have them."
Jonny added: "At the moment we're working with Marcus on the sculpture bit."
