Classical pianist 'has always improvised'
Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero has revealed she has always loved to improvise when playing the musical instrument.
Speaking to the Independent, the 40-year-old musician revealed she has been lucky to be a natural at playing the piano.
Montero was something of a child prodigy when she was younger and she stated that her skills were not taught.
"From the time I was a small child, at the very beginning of all my musical relationships, I just sat down at the piano and that's what I did - I improvised," the musician explained.
She added that she feels she is tapping into a "musical universe" when she starts improvising pieces on the piano, but is not entirely sure where her gift comes from.
Montero has recently released Solatino, a collection of works written by South American composers, and has just finished a tour of Europe, which included shows in Austria and Germany.
