Muse's Chris Wolstenholme was "killing himself" with alcohol.

The bassist admits his drinking habits spiralled out of control and he was no longer able to function without alcohol when his daily intake reached two pints of spirits, two bottles of wine and numerous bottles of beer.

He recalled: "I was actually losing my mind. I had to drink to get out of bed in the morning. It got to the point one Christmas morning where I was actually puking up blood.

"But you're so out of it. My rational thought at that time was, 'Oh I won't drink spirits today, I'll just drink beer. You just don't think properly. You don't really consider that you're killing yourself.

"Or even if you do, you get to the point where you don't care about anything anymore."

Chris' drinking blighted recording sessions for the band's 2008 album 'The Resistence' as he was often absent or drunk, but his bandmates admit it took them a long time to realise the extent of his problem.

Frontman Matt Bellamy told Q magazine: "The thing with him is he's such a good musician that his motor skills or something just aren't affected.

"So he would come in and play brilliantly and then we wouldn't see him for a bit. We'd have a great gig and he'd go off to his room so we wouldn't really know what was going on.

"It took years actually to really notice that behaviour."

Chris - who is married with five children - has been sober since shortly before the release of 'The Resistance'.
