Charlie Watts names Red Reece as drumming influence
Charlie Watts, the man found behind the drum kit in the Rolling Stones, has spoken about one of the key influences on his musical style.
Speaking to Clash Music, Watts stated that as a teenager, he had regularly watched Georgie Fame perform, an artist whose backing band included drummer Red Reece.
"Red was the first guy I ever saw play rock 'n' roll properly," said the Rolling Stones star. "He had a great sound."
Watts added that he did not consider himself to have a unique drumming style, as he has just "emulated all the people I liked".
This week marks the rerelease of classic Rolling Stones album Exile on Main Street.
Recent midweek sales figures suggest the band are in line to go to number one with the remastered version of the record, which would mark their first time in the top slot of the UK album charts for 16 years.Posted on 20 May 2010 13:33 to category : Music News
