Charlatans drummer to return to stage following cancer treatment
Jon Brookes, the man behind the drum kit in The Charlatans, is to return to the stage with the rest of the band for the first time after a successful battle against cancer.
Brookes collapsed midway through a gig in September and was revealed to have a brain tumour.
Following a course of chemotherapy, the musician has now been given the all-clear - meaning he can join his bandmates in playing a special New Year's Eve gig in Edinburgh tonight, reports the Daily Record.
Tim Burgess, the group's frontman, said having Brookes back behind the drum kit will make it an emotional evening.
He added that he is looking forward to creating a party atmosphere as the clock ticks down towards the start of 2011.
"I think it is going to be an all-round brilliant evening for everybody. It's going to be epic," Burgess promised.
The band are due to play at the West Princes Street Gardens in the Scottish capital city tonight, appearing prior to a headline set from rockers Biffy Clyro.
Following the live sets, the new year will be welcomed in at the venue with a fireworks display.
