Cello 'becoming a hit' with youngsters
Sharp Nelson, who is in a musical outfit known as The Piano Guys, told KSL.com: "I think the cello has been cool all along. It's just being discovered."
Nelson, along with the pianist John Schmidt has been touted as a crossover pioneer, helping to bring a distinct style of music to a wider audience.
"The cello is so much like the human vocal range," Nelson expanded.
"It's not like the violin, [which] can get really high and be really beautiful, but it's not like that vocal range. It's like people are relating to [the cello] better."
The cellist has also developed a bit of a cult following online after taking part in a Star Wars spoof video, which sees lightsabers replaced with bows
According to The Piano Guys, their vision is to produce the kind of music that inspires people all around the world.
"We like to put a new spin on classic stuff and a classic spin on new stuff," they state on their website.
"Whatever we do, we put our heart and souls into every note and frame."
