Cello and violin players win Yamaha competition
Posted on 18 Feb 2010 17:13 to category : Instruments News

Two young cello players and one violin player have been awarded £2,000 each after being recognised for their musical abilities by Yamaha.
The three students, violinist Jiafeng Chen and cellists Mikhail Nemtsov and Yoshika Masuda were named as the best young orchestral strings musicians in the UK in the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship Awards.
Bill Martin, education liason manager for Yamaha, told Mi-Pro that the standard of the final, which saw ten young musicians battle for the top prize, was extremely high.
"We heard ten quite astonishing recitals, each of which would have been quite at home gracing major concert platforms anywhere in the world, and we look forward to hearing more of our three winners as they progress in their careers," he stated.
The competition takes place on an annual basis, with a different set of musical instruments, from pianos to brass, as the focus each year.
Last month, Yamaha announced it had received a record number of entries for the scholarship competition.
