Casio has joined forces with mercury nominated Laura Mvula in order to launch ABRSM's (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) Music Teacher of the Year Awards 2017. Previously a music teacher herself, Mvula has been recognised for her contribution to the music industry and appointed as one of the events's judging panel.

For over two decades, Classic FM's Music Teacher of the Year Awards have recognised the UK's most inspiring and dedicated teachers and in anticipation of Classic FM's 25th anniversary, both Casio and ABRSM are gearing up to provide the UK's biggest ever celebration of exceptional musical education.

The event will reward five teachers who have been considered to have made a significant impact upon their students and or schools. The awards will be divided into five separate categories: Primary, Secondary, Peripatetic, Special Education Needs and Lifetime Achievement.

Mvula will join a panel of judges in order to choose a suitable winner for each category. The awards will be hosted at the Barbican Centre on 7th July 2017. The event promises to showcase not only the prospective winners of the this years most inspiring music teacher, but also a students who may well become the next generation of educators.

The presitgious event was announced on-air as Mvula joined Charlotte Green on her Sunday Afternoon Classic FM slot. In addition to this announcement Mvula was also present at Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton to launch the event with a performance. During her performance Mvula was playing the Casio Celviano Grand Hybrid digital piano, an instrument that integrates the essential components of a grand piano into a digital format making for a seamless combination of classical and modern elements into one device.

Classic FM, ABRSM and Casio are encouraging educational institutions, students and parents everywhere in the UK to nominate a music teacher who they feel has contributed to their own musical journey in an outstanding manner.

Casio's head of marketing Tim Gould reiterated the importance of musical education in today's society: “Musical experiences and opportunities must be accessible to all; which is why we’re taking action by joining forces with Classic FM and ABRSM to raise awareness of and celebrate music teachers, recognising the importance of music education across the UK. Music can and should be a part of everyone's lives!”
