Caroline McKay praised for drumming style
Posted on 3 Apr 2010 09:00 to category : Instruments News

Musicians who play the drum kit while standing up have been praised by author and performer John Robb.
His piece in for the Guardian Music Blog was inspired by the departure of Caroline McKay from Glasvegas, who is famous for being one of the drummers who plays in this way.
"There's something effortlessly cool about stand-up drummers - I've never understood why more bands don't utilise their powerful physical presence," said Robb.
He speculated that McKay had taken inspiration from Moe Tucker, the drummer in the Velvet Underground, or Bobby Gillespie, during the period in which the Primal Scream frontman was a member of the Jesus and Mary Chain.
McKay, who was named in tenth position in the NME Cool List earlier this year, has yet to reveal her reasons for quitting Glasvegas, who said they were "very sad" about her decision to leave the group.
The rest of the band are currently recording their second album in the US.
