Carl Barat's artistic freedom
Carl Barat's record label doesn't care if his new album sells well.
The former Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things rocker is recording his debut solo LP and has been advised not to worry about making the record commercially successful but to make music he likes.
He said: "My management told me, rather than making another... indie record, why don't you try and make something you don't care if anybody buys?
"So I've stopped trying to write hit singles and started writing the kind of songs I love again writing on the piano rather than the guitar."
Carl also ruled out a Libertines reunion with former co-frontman Pete Doherty because he is currently forging an acting career too, recently scoring good reviews in London stage show 'Fool for Love' with Sadie Frost.
He said: "I'm far too busy at the moment and there's too much furore that would surround every little movement. If we're going to do it, I'd rather do it properly and give it 100 per cent. But he's a funny one, that Pete."
However, Carl admitted he and Pete remain close, even though they don't see each other very often.
He added: "Nowadays we don't talk that often - maybe a couple of times a year there might be a text.
"But there's a strong bond and a kind of understanding."Posted on 26 Feb 2010 16:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News
