Can You Make Music With Only a Tattoo and a Chessboard?

Chessboard
Artist's explore new mediums to express music.
An event hosted at Redbull Studios, saw a group of artists gather to demonstrate their intriguing talents. The event, called Buzz Jam was presented by Sony Music and the Young Guns Network and gave the artists the challenge of creating new instruments within three days and then showcase them at Red Bull studio situated in London.

Artists presented a wide array of diverse and interesting techniques, mixing contemporary technology with the human body and everyday objects to achieve a feat that is as unusual as it is groundbreaking.

Artist Solaris performed through the medium of a 'connected chessboard', which could be used just like a keyboard to generate different notes and create a number of different melodies.

Other artists such as Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett, worked in collaboration with coder Adam John Williams in order to create musically responsive tattoos that reacted exclusively to touch. The tattoo's were a a conductive paint that spelled out each bands name on the respective persons. Each letter was then glued to the artists arm and then connected to a laptop running Ableton. Various movements, contact and flexing triggered different parts of tracks such as vocal effects.
