'Buy new guitar strings' for the studio
Buying a new set of strings is a step that is well worth making for guitarists before heading into the studio to record some music.
This is the suggestion of Gibson's Dave Hunter, who wrote on the instrument manufacturer's website this week that fresh strings are definitely the way to go for those looking to capture their best sound.
"Put a new set of strings on before you go to record, but not at the very last minute - give yourself time to stretch them in and let them settle," he advised.
Other tips offered by Mr Hunter, a former editor of The Guitar Magazine and author, include checking gear to ensure there are no buzzing noises or rattles and replacing any dying or overly noisy tubes in amps.
Earlier this month, the writer gave similar advice to live performers, recommending that guitarists use strings that are relatively new and stay in tune.
