Buddy Holly inspired guitars have a unique twist
Alister Atkin, who hails from Kent, was kindly given frets from the Buddy Holly Guitar Foundation, the BBC reported.
A total of five guitars have been produced, three of which using the frets. These have been turned into replica J45 guitars.
These guitars were used by Holly more to record songs than for live performances.
As such, they will poignantly form part of a project to help develop a recording studio in Lubbock, Texas, which was Holly's home town.
To his surprise, Mr Atkin received a call out of the blue from the foundation asking if he would produce the guitars.
They wanted a craftsman from England to build the guitars because of his fame over here.
"He got such a huge response to his music over here," Mr Atkin told the BBC.
"When you think of who it inspired - there's a good chance The Beatles' music may not have sounded the way it sounded if not for Buddy Holly."
Holly tragically died at the age of 22 in an airplane crash in 1959.
