Bruce Springsteen's Fender guitar designer passes away
Posted on 17 Aug 2010 18:02 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Phillip Petillo, the man who famously sold Bruce Springsteen a specially-adapted Fender Esquire guitar, has passed away at the age of 64.
The craftsman sold Springsteen the Fender guitar back in 1969 for $150 (£96) after he outfitted it with a patented neck and fingerboard, as well as pickups and frets, reports Asbury Park Press.
It is estimated that the iconic musical instrument is now worth more than $5 million.
Springsteen once said of Mr Petillo: "He's just about the best guitar man I've ever met."
Mr Petillo's wife and one of his five sons David have pledged to continue running his guitar shop following his death.
David said: "His instruments are a masterful combination of engineering science and old-world instrument making traditions."
Earlier this year, Springsteen brought out a DVD of his performance at Hyde Park in London with the E Street Band last summer.
The show was the electric guitar player's headline set at 2009's Hard Rock Calling Festival.
