Bruce Springsteen: Surprises with my new album
The Boss has explained that Wrecking Ball is a condemnation of the venality of Wall Street and the devastating damage corporations and big businesses have wrecked on ordinary people.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said that his latest record is "the most direct" music he has made since Nebraska.
At a press conference last week in Paris, he stated that his life as a musician had been spent "judging the distance between American reality and the American dream".
"What was done to our country was wrong and unpatriotic and un-American and nobody has been held to account," he told the Guardian afterwards.
"There is a real patriotism underneath the best of my music but it is a critical, questioning and often angry patriotism."
His new album is notable for its experimental edge. The folk sound he is most famous for is still there, but he has added a bit of creativity to the mix with hip-hop drums and country-blues.
