Brian Wilson to complete George Gershwin songs
The Beach Boys' former bass guitar player Brian Wilson is to adapt unfinished songs by George Gershwin.
Wilson is planning to record an album of classic George and Ira Gershwin songs and has been given access to rare pieces of half-completed material by the family estate.
The music legend will finish the compositions and include them on a record he has described as the "most spiritual project" he has ever undertaken.
"Along with Irving Berlin, Gershwin basically invented the popular song, but he did something more," Wilson commented.
"He had a gift for melody that nobody has ever equalled."
The former Beach Boys star added that Gershwin's music, which includes songs such as Someone to Watch Over Me and Summertime, is timeless and very accessible.
Wilson himself is regarded as one of the world's greatest living songwriters, as he wrote many Beach Boys hits and was the driving force behind their seminal LP Pet Sounds.
Former Beatle and fellow bass guitar player Paul McCartney has regularly cited this as a key influence on the Fab Four's Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.Posted on 10 Oct 2009 10:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
