Brass instruments 'are more interesting than people assume'
Posted on 23 Sep 2010 16:00 to category : Instruments News

While many youngsters aspire to learning to play electric guitars in their teenage years, anyone thinking of picking up music has been encouraged to try brass instruments.
Ahead of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Harrogate this weekend, editor of the Brass Herald Philip Biggs told BBC News their repertoire is actually very rich and varied.
Peggy Tomlinson from the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association agreed, pointing out that instruments such as cornets and French horns can be really rewarding.
"You can find a brass band as emotionally rousing as someone else would listening to an orchestra. It can really tug at your heartstrings," she said.
The expert added that people who play brass instruments can provide a valuable service to their community, as they can play music at important events and Christmas Carol singing concerts.
Earlier this month, musician Carlos Santana urged youngsters via the Daily Mail to try as many musical instruments as they can before focusing on just one, as it will broaden their horizons.
