Brass Instruments Turned Into Works of Art
Sculptor Phil Neal turns brass instruments into works of art
It's always fascinating to see what our customers get up to with their new instruments, whether they're taking them on the road, making a new addition to their studio or taking their first music lesson.

When one of our customers, Phil Neal from Welbeck, sent us a photo of what he'd been creating with some of our brass instruments bought from our eBay shop, we had to find out more.

Phil is a sculptor and brass enthusiast. He says, "brass instruments are a passion, I play them, I collect them and when they're beyond playing I recycle them!"

He first had an idea for his 'Sax Man' sculpture when he needed to brighten up the yard outside his studio.

He'd been given some farming wheels by a friend in the brass band he plays in, and incorporated some woodwind by swapping a wooden bowl he had made in exchange for a bent alto saxophone.

"A sax is no good without a player," said Phil, "so I used a part of my non-playing old brass instrument collection to create a pedalling, playing sax man!"

The Sax Man occupied his studio area until it was knocked over by a dog and the soldered joints gave way. it was reincarnated into a piece called the 'Bell Tailed Helium Bird'. Visit Phil Neal's Facebook page to find out more about his work.

How many different brass instruments can you spot in each sculpture?
