Bon Jovi are set to hang up their musical instruments for some time after their lengthy world tour comes to a conclusion later this year.

The electric guitar band are due to complete their live duties in July, after earning almost $150 million (£93 million) and playing in front of 1.5 million fans during 2010, reports Billboard.

Tico Torres, the man behind the drum kit in the group, said they are looking forward to taking a break after being on the road since last February.

He expressed his hope that the time away will help the band regain their creativity.

"Sometimes you need to get away so people can appreciate you better and you also have to get away to live your life and create and recharge," the drummer said.

"The best thing I can tell you is we're going to need a couple years off for sure."

Bon Jovi still have a large number of gigs left to play before embarking on their hiatus, including some UK shows in June.

They will play in stadiums in Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol, as well as appearing at the Hard Rock Calling festival in London.
