Posted on 18th Mar 2010 20:00 to category Band / Celebrity News
Tributes have poured in from the world of music following the death of Big Star singer and guitarist Alex Chilton at the age of 59 from a suspected heart attack.
Bobby Gillespie, Primal Scream's frontman, told BBC 6 Music that the death of the star was a huge loss.
"He just made so many great records and they were crazy rock'n'roll records," he said.
"But they were also art records and beautiful records, mournful records, sad records, joyous records."
Gillespie added that Chilton had been one of the greats and his work had been a huge influence on Primal Scream.
John Fry, the owner of Ardent Studios, added his own tribute about his friend.
He said that the Big Star guitarist had been an amazingly talented musician, as well as being a highly intelligent man.
Big Star recorded three records during their career - all of which were named among Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in a recent poll.
